Vittorio Silano (V.S.), chemist, biochemist and toxicologist, currently is professor at the Medical School II University of Rome,Italy. V.S. has worked as a high official for about 20 years at the Italian National Institute of Health and for a similar period of the time at the Italian Ministry of Health. V.S. has chaired the Scientific Committee of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) between 2003 and 20012 as well as various EFSA’s Scientific Committee working groups Between 2012 and 2014, Vittorio Silano has been a member of the EFSA Panel on Contaminants and since 2014 he is the chairman of the EFSA CEF Panel and of the Scientific Committee WG on Botanicals. He has published in international journals more than 330 scientific papers dealing with a number of research topics. Moreover, V.S. has published more than 30 books dealing with food safety scientific and regulatory issues.
