Dr Alan Walker is an academic microbiologist, specialising in the role that human gut bacteria play in health and disease. He studied for his PhD at the Rowett Institute and the University of Dundee, and then spent eight years at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Cambridge, before moving to his current post as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. His research group investigates the impact that changing our diet has on the microbes that live in our intestines, and he also collaborates with companies such as Chr. Hansen, working to develop novel probiotics.
