Gerard Bannenberg is the current editor of Fats of Life (http://www.fatsoflife.com/) and is working as Compliance and Scientific Outreach Director at the Global Organization for EPA and DHA (GOED). He is a scientist with an interest in polyunsaturated fatty acids and their mechanisms of action. Gerard has published some 40 studies related to poly-unsaturated fatty acid-derived lipid mediators and on the mechanisms whereby the body regulates inflammation and protects itself from oxidative injury. Gerard received a doctorate in Molecular Toxicology at the Institute for Environmental Medicine at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and his undergraduate degree at the Centre for Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences at Leiden University, The Netherlands. He is an affiliate member of the Center for Experimental Therapeutics and Reperfusion Injury, Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston MA. He has worked as scientific officer at Solutex, a technology company producing highly defined EPA and DHA concentrates. He has also served as a board member of GOED. Gerard co-founded the European Workshop on Lipid Mediators, a series of short congresses dedicated to promoting the understanding of bioactive lipid mediators. He reviews scientific articles for several journals.
