Dr. Gemma Walton is a lecturer at the University of Reading who has been researching the area of gut microbiology for 14 years. Gemma has a fascination in the role played by microbes in health and disease. Working with in vitro models has been a great way for learning more about mixed microbial communities and how they may impact on health. Gemma has conducted different human studies looking at the ageing gut microbiota, the impact of prebiotics on those with metabolic syndrome and looking at how different food products may act as prebiotics. The microbial community within us is a key player in our health.
