Prof. Dr. Jürgen Schrezenmeir obtained medical education at the University Würzburg and worked at the Department of Biochemistry and the Medical Clinic, University, Würzburg, the Medical Clinic, University Mainz, the MRI, Kiel and Karlsruhe, and the Clinical Research Center Kiel. He has a board in internal medicine, gastroenterology and endocrinology. His scientific interests are: Axis nutrition-digestion-metabolism; functional food, pro- and prebiotics; immunonutrition; diabetes and metabolic syndrome. He published more than 300 articles in international journals and was awarded: Max Rubner Prize by the German Society of Nutrition; Nordisk Prize by the German Diabetes Society (as co-author); Poster Prize by the German Diabetes Society; COPP-Prize by the German Society of Osteology (as co-author); H. & L. Schilling-professorship by the German Association of Foundations.
