Giovanni Li Volti serves as the Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Biomedical and Biotechnological Sciences of the University of Catania (Italy) and since 2010 he is the chairman of the Department of Stress Biology of the EuroMediterranean Institute of Science and Technology of Palermo (Italy). He graduated in 2000 from the School of Medicine of the University of Catania and he obtained his PhD in 2004 from the same University. Prof. Li Volti worked as a research associate in Prof. Nader G. Abraham’s lab at the New York Medical College (NY, USA) from 2001 to 2002. During this timeframe he started his experience in basic science research and initiated his work in the field of oxidative stress, metabolism and organ protection. For this discovery he achieved the “Aventis Pharma New Investigator Award for U.S. Fellow” in 2002 at the American Heart association.
