RCTs based on evidence-based medicine are central to the pharmaceutical drug regulatory process of approval. However, this model is ineffective for evaluating nutrients, which work in complex networks unlike drugs. To better capture outcomes due to multifaceted effects of nutrients, a paradigm shift is needed. By incorporating either an open label study or n-of-1 trials and capturing endpoints through a global index, we propose an Augmented RCT specific for the dietary supplement industry.
