Health by design: the future of personalised nutrition

Vitafoods Centre Stage
The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that over 65 million people will suffer from dementia and other neuro-degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's by 2020. In addition, according to the WHO there are around 347 million people worldwide with diabetes. With rising costs in healthcare worldwide, finding sustainable solutions for the prevention of non-communicable diseases is becoming a main priority for governments worldwide; creating a fantastic opportunity for the functional nutrition industry to step in as solution provider. At the same time, there is increasing evidence which shows that there is no "one size fits all" model in nutrition - In part due to the bespoke nutrition requirements needed throughout the stages of life and in part due to the unique DNA profiles of individuals. As the request for personalised nutrition solutions is rising, whilst keeping them cost effective and accessible to all; the pressure on the industry and academic community to develop successful preventative solutions has never been greater. This debate will review the work done to date within the area of personalised nutrition, identify gaps in knowledge and research as well as recognise opportunities for growth within the market.
